Working Together

I Am Committed to Work Together...

Because We Are Stronger Together

Because We Are Stronger Together

Because We Are Stronger Together

Division will not breed collaboration -- and I intend to listen, offer my experience and work to rebuild a respectful collaborative approach to Lions Bay's municipal governance.

As a tenured resident of Lions Bay I feel it is essential to be clear on the facts during debate and push for documented facts regardless of the topic. (It is the times we are in - -Fake News is everywhere)

You will not hear me bad mouth or spread gossip in and around this village -- we are all Canadians.

Let's Get Us Moving Again

Because We Are Stronger Together

Because We Are Stronger Together

Since the last election, I, like you, watched from the gallery and voiced my concerns and support for various projects. I was very troubled by the lack of traction this council had made on many of our community initiatives - ones that were ready to carry forward - hence why I offered myself to the table when the second councillor reigned.

I am now working to insist this council work together to make some progress before this term is over.

A brief history of the facts

I served as Lions Bay Councillor for 2 terms,  2010 - 2017, then as your Mayor from 2017-2021 where we governed through a global pandemic and tirelessly wrote grant application after grant application to ensure we had rock solid savings for when we all emerged.

In 2022 our Village chose a different Mayor and unfortunately it quickly led to 8 of 13 village employees resigning followed by a very unsettling time in our small community--operationally, legally, financially and democratically.

When a second councillor had resigned during this term, I chose to run for the available seat believing that my prior experience would help to navigate us off the sandbar.

I am working to guide our current state of affairs and I remain committed to our Village Policies, Bylaws, and Village Charter, all  of which are designed to keep us on an even keel through current and future challenges.

I want to hear your thoughts on issues that we, as a Council have to remain focused on.

  • Fiscal Responsibility;
  • Infrastructure, Utilities and Maintenance;
  • Climate Action and our Village Water Management
  • Emergency Management & Preparedness
  • Development, Building and Board of Variance;
  • Parks, Tourism and their combined impact;
  • Bylaws and Community Planning
  • Utilities, Communications & Licensing
  • the list goes on....

...and please know, I appreciate every single call and email I receive from residents who want to discuss our community's needs.  Your concern matters.

What Keeps Me Up at Night ...

Financial Forecasts

  • It's been a messy term for municipal governance. How much money do we have in the coffers and how do we make it work for us?
  • How do we as a village manage expenditures while prepping for future needs?

Village Future Planning

  • What is the status of our OCP, (Official Community Plan)?
  • How do we handle the Provincial call for densification in communities?
  • What demands will be placed on our infrastructure and water management?

Our Water

Aging Infrastructure

  • With 4x more water being used in Lions Bay/ household - where is it being lost?
  • 4 Million water metering grant - a  wonderful start. This will help us understand our landscape.
  • What are our contingency plans if we run out?

Aging Infrastructure

Admin. Team Efficiency

Aging Infrastructure

  • When we talk about aging infrastructure -   what do citizens think that means?
  • I think of this like your home... a cracked driveway, mossy roof,  leaky plumbing, the storm drain is plugged, the electrical shorting out.... and it is only getting older. Now think village size.

Admin. Team Efficiency

Admin. Team Efficiency

Admin. Team Efficiency

  • Ensuring we have an employee development and performance management plan.
  • Project planning and execution, budgetary oversight and expediency

Our Fire Safety

Admin. Team Efficiency

Admin. Team Efficiency

  • Forest fires are always top of mind - is our Fire Team ready?
  • With 1870 fires in BC in 2025 and our community's location we need continued vigilance.
  • We need to continue to build our relationships with Wild Fire Professionals.
  • Grant approval has been achieved in 2025 for a Lions Bay evacuation plan.
  • Is our community ready?

The Changing Climate

Wildlife Sustainability

  • Winters getting wetter, and summers, drier.
  • Sea level rise is a major concern for oceanside communities up and down the Pacific ocean.
  • How must we navigate the changing environment?
  • Is our Climate Action Plan enough?
  • Seeing an Official Evacuation Plan in motion.

Wildlife Sustainability

Wildlife Sustainability

Our mountainous home is flanked by a densely treed mountain range rich with wildlife. They were here first and it is our responsibility to find ways to co-exist with all  the flora and fauna.

  • We need a plan to ensure proper containers for waste are available at reasonable costs to tax payers.
  • We must do our part to respect the environment as we make plans, enforce and amend bylaws.
