Municipal election contributions help all teams with costs associated with running a fair and financially equitable campaign.  Maximum limits even the playing field for all participants by establish a ceiling maximum for donations and campaign contributions whether an in-kind service for the campaign or a direct cash giving. 

As of January 2026, the maximum allowable contribution/donation by any one person or organization in a municipal election, whether a byelection or an election to a candidate for   Mayor is: $1429.70/contributor.

The maximum sum for expenses for a campaign for Councillor in Lions Bay cannot exceed $6161.89 CND and for Mayor the limit is $12,323.78.

Know before you donate: important information on municipal donations:

• If you give under $50 - your name is not made public nor published in the FRPC.

• If you give $50 or more to a local election candidate or elector organization, your name and contribution amount is published in the Financial Reports and Political Contributions System (FRPC). 

• Will I get a tax receipt?  NO.  Campaign contributions to local/ municipal election candidates and/or elector organizations are not eligible for tax receipts. 

• Who can make a contribution?  A resident of B.C., and either a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.

• Is there a limit on financial contributions? YES. Individuals or groups  have a maximum amount they can contribute and it is $1429.70 per individual/org.
